CENTRAL PALM BEACH CHAMBER’S ANNUAL FARM CITY LUNCHEON

-

The Central Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Western Palm Beach County Farm Bureau and the South Florida Fair, will be hosting the annual Farm City luncheon this Wednesday, November 15th at the South Florida Fairgrounds. Farm City annually highlights local agribusiness, as Palm Beach County is one of the largest agriculture counties in the country. This event would not be possible without the support of our sponsors: Florida Crystals, Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative of Florida, U.S. Sugar, and Wells Fargo. The luncheon will feature keynote speaker, Mike Joyner, Florida Assistant Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services, who will discuss the economic impact Florida’s agriculture experienced after the devastating impact from Hurricane Irma. In addition, we will have special remarks from John Hoblick, President of Florida Farm Bureau. The concept of buying local is nothing new, but it is more important now than ever. The effects of Hurricane Irma on Florida’s agriculture were devastating, with an estimated $2.6 billion loss across Florida’s Agriculture. Buying locally helps sustain our local economy and keeps the money re-circulating within Palm Beach County. Locally grown produce is usually sold within 24 hours of being picked, resulting in a better tasting and fresher product. Additionally, locallyowned businesses are more likely to purchase from other locally-owned businesses, service providers or farms. Every dollar spent in your local community generates twice as much income for the local economy, therefore, purchasing within your community at local businesses keeps more money in the local economy so our community can continue to grow and improve. To learn more about the effects of Hurricane Irma on Palm Beach County’s local agriculture, you can attend the Central Palm Beach County Chambers annual Farm City luncheon. The luncheon will be held on Wednesday, November 15th, with networking taking place from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and the program running from 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the South Florida Fairgrounds, Expo East located at 9067 Southern Blvd in West Palm Beach.
