Flagler Shore plan doesn’t add up

-

I agree with all the numerous negative comments regarding Flagler Shore. I would add:

1. It is ugly with all the barrels, cones and cement barriers.

2. It is a disgrace to the beautiful and expensive taxpayer improvements of just a few years ago.

3. It is unnecessary, as the original design of the walkway is wide enough for both pedestrians and bicyclists.

4. It is dangerous, with drivers being challenged to converge to a twoway lane with little wiggle room, forced to bypass their destination and make U-turns, thereby causing more stop-and-go traffic.

5. It is a waste of taxpayer dollars putting up barricades, purchasing flimsy, uncomfortable metal chairs, nondescript box furniture, large potted plants and “art”-decorated cargo containers which prevent motorists from conveniently getting to their destination. I have to wonder if we hired a “consultant” to come up with this fiasco.

6. This is not Amsterdam, where many people ride their bike to work. We do not have bike garages and racks in front of office buildings. And it’s hot here. Where does one shower?

7. It does not attract additional office space rentals and actually harms the business of existing eateries with the addition of unattractive food trucks.

8. And now they’re using Flagler Drive to make political statements, calling it “pop-up art.”

9. I urge all who are unhappy with what the town leaders did to Flagler Drive to email them.
