HOSPITAL NEWS

Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center has opened a Neuro Intensive Care Unit for patients who are suffering from conditions such as stroke, brain hemorrhage and tumors. The hospital is a primary stroke center and part of the Advanced Neuroscience Network, a team of hospitals and doctors that offer a continuum of care throughout South Florida, according to a news release.

“Our Neuro ICU is equipped with advanced minimally invasive monitoring and treatment techniques-both mechanical and pharmacological therapies to give our patients some of the most advanced care,” said Dianne Goldenberg, the hospital’s CEO.

THANKSGIVING DAY GIVING

Kayla Abramowitz, the 15-year-old founder of Kayla Cares 4 Kids, and her family made a donation to Molly’s House in Stuart on Thanksgiving Day. Molly’s House is a place where people in medical crises and their families can stay when their treatment takes them far from home.

Kayla’s charity dropped off 14 DVD players — one for each room, 100 DVDs, 200 books, a Wii game console and video games, board games and puzzles. There will be crafts and games for the residents.

The relatives of the sick will cook dinner at the house.

Kayla, a sophomore at Dwyer High, started Kayla Cares 4 Kids four years ago after her own extended hospital stays. She has Crohn’s disease, juvenile arthritis and eosinophilic colitis. She has been featured on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt’s “Inspiring America” and received six national awards for her work.
