During his senior season as Wellington High School’s starting quarterback, Shannon Patrick threw for 3,438 yards and 49 touchdowns.

Three years later, he’s putting up even bigger numbers.

Now a redshirt sophomore at Northland Community & Technical College, Patrick has starred for the Pioneers, who compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Minnesota College Athletic Conference.

He has thrown for an NJCAA-leading 4,122 yards and 41 touchdowns this season, leading Northland to a 9-2 record and a berth in Sunday’s Graphic Edge Bowl against Ellsworth Community College of Iowa.

The game is part of a doubleheader at the University of Northern Iowa.

Patrick’s accomplishments this season have earned him numerous honors, among them NJCAA Region XIII Player of the Year.

He was named fifirst- team all-conference, and was voted a GridironRR All-American.

“I hold myself to a high standard, and I’m a hard critic on myself,” said Patrick, who was named The Post’s 2014 Large Schools Of ff ff ff ff ff fens ive Player of the Year. “I did believe that I could have this success in college, because I’ve done it in high school.”

Patrick, 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, had opportunities to walk on at Florida, South Florida and other Division I schools after graduating from Wellington but chose to sign with the University of Pikeville in Kentucky.

Pikeville is a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics school that competes in the Mid-South Conference.

He redshirted as a freshman and played one season before transferring to Northland.

“I believed that I could play football at a higher level, so I wanted to take the junior college route,” he said.

“So for my redshirt sophomore season, I took the junior college route, and it’s been a great experience.”

Patrick said he has received offffffffffffers from eight Division I I schools but is holding out hope he gets a Division I offffffffffffer.
