Trump at estate most of weekend
Police will start closing off roads around Mar-aLago at 1 p.m. Friday.
PALM BEACH — President Donald Trump should arrive at Mara-Lago late Friday night, then take a side trip to Mississippi on Saturday before returning to his tropical estate for the rest of the weekend, new notices from the Federal Aviation Administration suggest.
Trump is scheduled to appear at a campaign rally in Pensacola on Friday night before flying to Palm Beach International Airport.
The FAA on Wednesday issued flight restrictions for the area around Palm Beach from 11 p.m. Friday to 9:30 a.m. Saturday. A separate FAA notice restricts flights in the area from 2:30 p.m. Saturday to 6 p.m. Sunday.
During the five-hour window Saturday, the president is scheduled to visit Mississippi, where press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said he will attend the openings of the Museum of Mississippi History and the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum.
NAACP President Derrick Johnson criticized Trump’s plan to visit the civil rights museum, saying the president has an “abysmal” record on civil rights.
Asked Tuesday about the possibility of protests of Trump’s Mississippi visit, Sanders said such actions would be “very sad. I think this is something that should bring the country together to celebrate the opening of this museum and highlighting civil rights movement and the progress that we’ve made. And I would hope that those individuals would join in that celebration instead of protesting it. However, they have every right to protest it.”
In Palm Beach, police will start
closing roads around Mara-Lago about 1 p.m. Friday, and those roads will remain closed through Sunday. During the closure period, all forms of travel, including pedestrian travel, will be prohibited on South Ocean Boulevard from South County Road to Southern Boulevard. The travel restrictions will also extend eastward to the ocean. Residents of the closure area will be granted access with proper credentials.
Trump has made eight visits as president to Mara-Lago.
He’ s also expected to return for Christmas, though the White House has not released any details.
