Horn stops Corcoran, retains WBO title

Jeff Horn followed his disputed WBO welterweig­ht title win over Manny Pacquiao with a successful first defense against Gary Corcoran.

Horn (19-0) won by technical knockout in the 11th round when Corcoran’s corner threw in the towel with Corcoran (12-2) bleeding from a deep cut above his left eye.

■ The British Board of Boxing Control said it will meet in January to decide whether to lift the suspension of former world heavyweigh­t champion Tyson Fury. He was suspended in 2016 for drug and medical issues.

Golf: The LPGA Tour is adding two tournament­s in California next year as part of a 34-tournament schedule offering a record $68.75 million in prize money. Nineteen events will take place in the United States.

Obituaries: Linebacker Tommy Nobis, who was the Atlanta Falcons’ first player, died at 74. Nobis, chosen No. 1 overall in the 1966 draft by the expansion Falcons, played from 1966-1976 and was a five-time Pro Bowl pick.

■ Pete Brown, who helped form the Cincinnati Bengals franchise and served in the personnel department, died at 74.

Soccer: Germany’s players will each receive a $410,000 bonus if the team defends its World Cup title next year in Russia. Only Italy (1934 and 1938) and Brazil (1958 and 1962) have won back to back.
