Masked-gunman case lands husband in jail
Spouse of Makeva Jenkins charged with murder in her fatal shooting at home in June.
WEST PALM BEACH — Alvin Mayers wasn’t surprised his son-in-law was arrested in the June murder of his daughter, Makeva Jenkins. He’s just relieved it finally happened.
Euri Jenkins, 31, was arrested Thursday on a first-degree murder charge in his wife’s June 29 killing. He appeared Friday morning at a brief hearing at the Palm Beach County Jail before Judge Caroline VIDEO ONLINE

Shepherd. She ordered Jenkins to remain in the county jail without the possibility of posting bond.
He cannot have contact either with his wife’s family or the co-defendant in the case, 20-year-old Joevan Joseph.
An indictment filed Thursday indicates that either Jenkins or Joseph fatally shot Makeva Jenkins, 33, an entrepreneur and mother of three, early that June morning
in her home near Boynton Beach after a masked man knocked on her front door.
Euri Jenkins was at the home on Plumbago Place, off Hypoluxo Road just west of Santaluces High School, that morning, as were their two young children and Makeva Jenkins’ brother, a relative told The Post.
A fight broke out, and a man — it is unclear who — fatally shot Makeva Jenkins. She was taken to a hospital, where she died.
Authorities arrested Joseph in September but did not specify his connection to the killing, as is common when defendants are indicted by a grand jury. Her husband’s role in the killing is unclear as well.
“I think they’re overreaching,” Euri Jenkins’ attorney, Gregg Lerman, said Friday regarding the Sheriff ’s Office. “He’s a victim in this case.”
Lerman said Jenkins hired him shortly after his wife’s killing because of repeated interviews with sheriff’s authorities. Lerman said his client has been cooper- ative with the investigation and stayed near the area. He and Jenkins were shocked by the arrest.
“What’s changed, I can’t say, but surely Euri Jenkins hasn’t changed,” Lerman said.
Makeva Jenkins’ family spoke to the media in August, renewing the push for more information in her death. Euri Jenkins was not there.
When reporters asked Makeva Je n kins’ grandmother, Gloria Harold Willis, about his absence, she responded: “We have no idea about her husband, or where he is, or what’s going on with that.”
At that news conference, the lead investigator had a specific request for information regarding the family car.
The suspect left the home in the family’s white Dodge Charger and abandoned it between 1:50 a.m. and 2:20 a.m. on Lawrence Road near Pensacola Drive, about a mile from the home, the detective said.
“My grandchildren are going to be without their mom and their dad ... but at least something is going to be done,” Harold Willis said after court Friday.
Jenkins’ slaying is one of 93 confirmed homicides in Palm Beach County during 2017, and one of 13 female victims, according to a Palm Beach Post database of homicides in the county dating to 2009.
