Villanova holds on to top spot in AP poll

Villanova remains No. 1 in the AP Top 25 for the second straight week, and Arizona State moves up two spots to No. 3 after Wichita State dropped out of the top 10.

The Wildcats (11-0) received 45 of 65 first-place votes from a media panel in the poll released Monday. Michigan State stayed at No. 2 and received 15 firstplace votes, with Arizona State receiving the final five No. 1 votes.

The Sun Devils are 10-0 for the first time and have matched their highest ranking as a program. Duke fell a spot to No. 4, followed by North Carolina.

(At) No. 2 Michigan State 107, Houston Baptist 62: Miles Bridges had 33 points, Nick Ward added 20, and the Spartans (11-1) routed the Huskies (4-8).

(At) No. 12 Gonzaga 101, IUPUI 71: Killian Tillie came off the bench to score 27 points, fellow reserve Johnathan Williams added 17 points and 14 rebounds for the Bulldogs (10-2).

(At) No. 14 Kansas 109, Omaha 64: Svi Mykhailiuk hit six 3-pointers and finished with 26 points as the Jayhawks (9-2) rolled past the Mavericks (3-11).

(At) No. 15 TCU 91, Texas Southern 72: JD Miller scored 20 points, Vladmir Brodziansk­y added 18 points and 10 rebounds, and the Horned Frogs (11-0) cruised by the Tigers (0-12).

(At) No. 18 Arizona 83, North Dakota State 53: Deandre Ayton had 25 points and nine rebounds to help the Wildcats (9-3) roll over the Bison (5-6).

(At) No. 24 Florida State 69, Charleston Southern 58: Phil Cofer’s 19 points carried the Seminoles (101) past the Buccaneers (4-6).

(At) No. 25 Creighton 90, UT Arlington 81: Marcus Foster scored 32 points to help the Bluejays ( 9-2) hold off the Mavericks (8-4).

Women’s Top 25: UConn remains the unanimous No. 1 team in the AP poll.

The Huskies (8-0), who received all 32 votes from the national media panel, had the week off and will play Oklahoma today.

The top five teams stayed the same with Notre Dame, Louisville, South Carolina and Mississipp­i State following UConn.
