Community enjoys a simple meal so others can simply eat at ‘Empty Bowls’ in Delray Beach

-

Nearly 1,000 members of the public participated in Empty Bowls Delray Beach Dec. 3, enjoying a simple meal of soup and bread so that others could simply eat. They sampled delicious soups donated by 38 of Delray Beach’s finest restaurants and clubs, paired with artisan breads from Old School Bakery, all to benefit the Palm Beach County

Food Bank. The soup and bread was served by local notables including Delray Beach Mayor Cary Glickstein, Delray Police Chief Jeff Goldman, Chelsea Taylor of WIRK radio and Suzanne Boyd of CBS TV 12, Old School Square President and CEO Rob Steele, among dozens of others.

Each patron took home an empty bowl as a reminder of the empty bowls on the tables of the

hungry families in our community. Many attendees purchased beautiful and colorful hand decorated bowls, created by local students from American Heritage, St. Joseph’s Episcopal, Gulfstream, Pinecrest, Palm Beach State College and FAU, as well as Art Sea Living and the Coral Lakes Pottery Club.

Welcoming the pub- lic to the event were

Empty Bowls Delray Beach Co-Chairs Patty Jones and Julie Peyton Stein, Honorary Chairs Shelly and Billy Himmelrich and Palm Beach County Food Bank Executive Director Karen Erren. “We experienced a great outpouring of support from the community for Empty Bowls Delray Beach,” said Erren. “It is a demonstration of the concern that people have for the hungry in our community and their dedication to help us address this serious issue. We are so grateful to our chairs and their hardworking committee, as well as the generous soup providers, sponsors and our outstanding celebrity servers.”

All proceeds from
