MIAMI — Derrick Walton Jr.’s journey as a two-way player continued Sunday with the Heat sending the guard back to their developmental-league affiliate in Sioux Falls.

Walton, 22, re-joined the Skyforce as part of his twoway contract and now has been sent down and recalled six times since the start of the season. Walton has played in 12 games with the Heat, averaging 1.8 points and 1.1 assists in 8.8 minutes.

Players on two-way contracts are allowed to spend a maximum of 45 days in the NBA. Walton has 14 days remaining before the Heat are forced to make a decision whether to keep him on a two-day contract or release him.

Walton has appeared in eight games with the Skyforce this season, averaging 14.5 points, 7.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds while shooting 41.2 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from three-point range.

He was available for the Skyforce’s game Sunday vs. the Agua Caliente Clippers.

The Heat released Matt Williams Jr. from his twoway contract a week ago, replacing him with Derrick Jones Jr.

Jones saw his first action as a member of the Heat during Friday’s 107-103 win over the Knicks, scoring two points and grabbing nine rebounds in nine minutes.

Williams rejoined the Skyforce as a returning player on Wednesday.
