ODDS AND ENDS
Baseball: The NL champion Dodgers will send $3 million to the Chicago White Sox and receive $1 million from Kansas City as part of last week’s three-team trade that sent left-handed reliever Scott Alexander from the Royals to Los Angeles. Chicago got relievers Luis Avilan and Joakim Soria in the trade.
■ The Arizona Diamondbacks avoided arbitration with Randall Delgado by agreeing to a $2.25 million, one-year contract with the right-handed reliever. He went 1-2 with a 3.59 ERA in 26 appearances in 2017 before elbow inflammation in midJuly ended his season.
■ Texas Rangers outfielder Ryan Rua agreed to an $870,000, one-year contract to avoid salary arbitration. In four stints with Texas last season, Rua hit .217 with three home runs and 12 RBIs over 63 games.
Tennis: Rafael Nadal struggled with his timing and shot-making as he started his delayed preparations for the Australian Open with an error-filled 6-4, 7-5 loss to Richard Gasquet in the Kooyong Classic exhibition event in Melbourne, Australia.
Skiing: Olympic slalom champion Mikaela Shiffrin used a frenetic final run to stretch her winning streak in 2018 to five races at a women’s World Cup night race in Flachau, Austria.
Shiffrin became the first female skier to start a calendar year with five straight wins, eclipsing the previous best by Swiss star Vreni Schneider in 1989.
