BOCA RATON — City police are looking into whether the shooting death of a man on Interstate 95 in Boca Raton early Wednesday is connected to Hugo Steven Selva, accused of murdering a woman outside a Lake Worth convenience store hours later before a Palm Beach County Sheriff ’s deputy shot and killed him on I-95.

Edwin Milkevic, 29, was fatally shot near Yamato Road in Boca Raton at about 2:45 a.m., causing him to drive his Nissan 370Z onto the grassy area on the west side of the highway, police said. The crash closed southbound lanes of the interstate through the morning rush hours.

Law-enforcement officials initially said Milkevic’s crash was not linked to Selva, who was later identified and accused of shooting Nicole Novak, 26, outside the My Neighborhood Grocery store at about 9:30 a.m. Selva allegedly put Novak in a vehicle, then drove southbound in the northbound lanes of I-95, causing three head-on crashes before the deputy shot him near the Lantana Road exit.

On Thursday, however, sources said Boca Raton police are not ruling out a connection. The department issued a statement saying only that “detectives are also looking at other incidents and crimes to determine if there are any connections to (Milkevic’s) case.”

Milkevic, who worked at a restaurant in Margate, was traveling on West Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach at about 2:30 a.m., then got on southbound I-95, making it just north of Yamato Road when he was shot. Milkevic was taken to Delray Medical Center, where he died.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Boca Raton Detective Tim Kurdys at 561-338-1377 or Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County at 800-458-TIPS (8477).

Selva, 22, is also being investigated in connection with shootings in West Palm Beach on Wednesday morning and in Boynton Beach early Thursday.
