A judge Friday morning denied bond for a Boynton Beach woman facing attempted murder charges after shooting her husband Monday night.

Lisa Barreca, 53, appeared before Judge Ted Booras during a brief hearing at the Palm Beach County Jail in suburban West Palm Beach. She was sitting in a wheelchair after suffering a gunshot wound to her right thigh. Police say she shot herself while she and her husband, Eric, struggled in the garage of their Aspen Leaf Drive home.

“Like most people, they have their times, either good or bad,” Bob Raimondo of West Palm Beach, Eric’s cousin, told The Post on Friday. “But this is an absolute freaking shock. And even more so, a very strange situation.”

Lisa Barreca had been involved in a long-running dispute with her homeowners association in the city’s Aspen Glen neighborhood. Her complaints covered perceived violations of community rules, such as one Aspen Leaf Drive resident keeping a portable basketball hoop on his driveway.

She told authorities that she shot Eric, also 53, following an argument about complaints made to the HOA. She said she feared for her safety during their argument, city police reported.

Police said this week Eric was

in stable condition after suffering gunshot wounds to his head, both arms, his right leg and his back. He called 911 to alert them of the shooting. Records show that Boynton Beach police have responded to the Barreca residence seven times since May for various incidents, including Monday afternoon before the shooting for “neighbor trouble.”

Raimondo said that two years ago, the Barrecas at one point separated for about a year but got back together. Raimondo said he does not personally know Lisa Barreca.

Raimondo said Eric Barreca was born in New York City but has lived in Florida for most of his life. He recently switched jobs and is now a facility manager for a sales company, his cousin said. He concentrates on staying fit and healthy and does not drink or do drugs.

“Eric is an upbeat person, always looks at the glass being half full and life as being a gift,” Raimondo said.
