Trump’s unlike Ike: Ike was presidential

-

I would consider myself to be a liberal on political issues, but at the same time having a broad understanding of the issues that concern us all at this time. With a bellicose administration in control (and wanting a huge military parade in Washington), I urge everyone to consider the following quotation and then reflect upon its writer:

“Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the clouds of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron.”

The writer was Dwight D. Eisenhower, a man who understood war and had the dignity that his office as president of the United States demands.

A president who does not read and appreciate history, and wants to be the military parade master, demeans us all. STEPHEN CLARKE, ROYAL PALM BEACH
