GREENACRES — A Lake Worth man is facing a charge of attempted first-degree murder after he allegedly tried to kill his estranged wife’s boyfriend with a machete late last year, according to a police report.

During the alleged attack, a 9-year-old boy was accidentally hit with a broken bottle and sustained a cut to his hand that required surgery.

Alberto Perez Sainz, 45, is also facing charges of culpable negligence inflicting injury, violation of a restraining order and simple battery as well as attempted murder. He is being held in the Palm Beach County Jail in lieu of $50,003.

Perez Sainz’s wife has a restraining order against her husband, the report said. Perez Sainz allegedly launched his attack Nov. 23 at a party his wife and her boyfriend were attending on the 900 block of Weymouth Road, just east of the Greenacres city limits.

Perez Sainz, who was not invited to the party, swung his machete at the 47-yearold man’s head several times. The man was struck in the left hand and right forearm. The injuries cut several tendons, required more than 50 stitches to close and also forced the man to undergo surgery.

Witnesses disarmed the machete from Perez Sainz. He then broke a glass bottle and went after the man again, swinging at him but striking the boy in the hand. The boy also had several tendons cut in his right index finger and had surgery at Jupiter Medical Center.

Records show that Perez Sainz was arrested Oct. 8 and charged with domestic battery after he allegedly punched his wife in the face outside a West Palm Beach nightclub. The state attorney’s office chose not to file charges.
