HOBE SOUND STATION PROGRESS

First stores expected to start opening in March

- BILL DIPAOLO

The developer building Hobe Sound Station, which he says will bring “a stylish retail/restaurant center with the feel of Worth Avenue” to a desolate section of U.S. 1, plans to open the first stores in March.

“Everything is on target,” said John Doyle, who is building the $7 million center about 1 mile north of Bridge Road on the east side of U.S. 1. He expects Hobe Sound Station to draw customers from Jupiter and Stuart.

About four dozen condos — the tallest would be 40 feet — with prices starting at about $600,000, also are planned. So are a neighborhood market with a gas station and a retail/ office building in the Miznerstyled development.

“There’s no fun, no energy, no imagination along this stretch of U.S. 1. People leapfrog Hobe Sound. They go north to Stuart or south to Jupiter,” Doyle has told The Palm Beach Post.

Doyle is also building Seminole Bluff, a four-story complex with 20 luxury condominiums, starting at about $900,000 each on the St. Lucie River to meet the booming high-end residential waterfront development in Hobe Sound.

Recently approved waterfront luxury housing developments in Jupiter:

■ The Profile Art Gallery is scheduled to be demolished and replaced with a five-story, 15-unit condo with a marina on the Intracoastal Waterway across from Harbourside Place. The condos are expected to start at about $800,000.

■ Inlet Waters is scheduled to be 33 townhouses for about $700,000 each on A1A south of Beach Road, walking distance from DuBois Park.

Another proposed waterfront luxury housing plan, Fisherman’s Wharf, calls for three condominium buildings. One would be six stories tall with 12 units.

The other two would be five stories, each with 10 units. Starting price for the units would be about $1.3 million.

A fourth building, which would be two-three stories, would have four townhouses and three live/work units. The live/work units would be similar to those in Abacoa, where residents have their businesses on the first floor and live on the second floor.

The Fisherman’s Wharf plan is scheduled to go before the town council on March 20.
