Scar-free solution for loose skin

- PLASTIC SURGERY Michael Frederick, MD

Question: I really don’t want surgery, but I hate my loose skin. Is there anything I can do?

Answer: This is probably the most common question

I get asked during a consultation because no one likes loose skin, but some people want to avoid scars. Over the past several years, multiple devices have been created to tighten skin without surgery and we think that ThermiTight® is the best one.

ThermiTight is a minimally invasive treatment that creates skin tightening over time. During the procedure, a tiny probe is used to gently heat specific tissues to a therapeutic temperature that is monitored with a special infrared camera. The body reacts to the heating process by creating collagen, which builds up over the next several months resulting in a tightening of your skin. ThermiTight can be used on any part of the body, but the areas that get the most benefit are the face and neck, upper back rolls and the area just above the knees.

The ThermiTight procedure is minimally invasive so it is done while you are awake with local anesthesia. After the procedure, a gentle wrap is applied and you may resume all normal activities the next day.

You may have some minor swelling or redness from the local anesthesia that will resolve completely within a couple days.

It takes up to six months to see the final result because the final result depends upon how much your body responds to the heating. The more collagen that your body creates, the more tightening you will get over time as the collagen contracts. Not every patient is ideal for ThermiTight as some patients have too much laxity to achieve a desired result without surgery. ThermiTight can also be performed at the same time as liposuction to optimize your liposuction result. This is commonly done in the neck, abdomen and in the upper back rolls.
