The highly anticipated Four Arts Contemporaries gala took place in the Philip Hulitar Sculpture Garden at The Society of the Four Arts. Held only every other year, this year’s event was themed “A Night in Tokyo” and was chaired by Alex Griswold, Peter Geisler, Jr., Piper Quinn, and Erik Waldin. Following cocktail hour, more than 350 guests were led into the main tent by Taiko Japanese drummers where they found themselves surrounded by striking bonsais and orchids, Japanese-inspired food stations and music from New York-based D J Christopher Sealy. Following a welcome from the chairmen, an exciting Samurai sword demonstration took place bringing the crowd to its feet before they danced the night away.
The Four Arts Contemporaries was established in 2009 to encourage the appreciation of art, music, drama and literature among the young supporters of The Society of the Four Arts. The group holds events each month from October until May. Membership is by invitation only.
Proceeds from “A Night in Tokyo” will benefit the mission of The Society of the Four Arts. Since its founding in 1936, The Society of the Four Arts offers a dynamic lineup of cultural programing, including notable speakers, concerts, films, educational programs, and art exhibitions. The campus is home to beautiful sculpture and botanical gardens, a library and children’s library, and a state-ofthe art educational facility. All of its programs are open to the public.
