Report: CB Sherman has deal with 49ers

-

Star cornerback Richard Sherman agreed to a threeyear deal with the San Francisco 49ers, one day after being released by Seattle. ESPN reported the deal is worth up to $39.15 million.

Sherman played an integral role in the NFC West rivalry between Seattle and San Francisco this decade. His deflection on a potential game-winning TD pass in the 2013 NFC championship game led to an interception that sent the Seahawks to the Super Bowl, which they won. Sherman then celebrated a Thanksgiving win in a road game vs. the 49ers the following season by eating a turkey leg on the 50-yard line.

Now, he’s joining the 49ers after the Seahawks decided he wasn’t worth his $13 million salary for 2018. San Francisco hope she can make a big impact even as he turns 30 this month and is coming off an Achilles injury that cost him half of the 2017 season. Elsewhere in the NFL:

■ The Giants cut veteran cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie on Sunday. The 2017 season was a difficult one for the 10-year pro who didn’t have an interception and was suspended for one game for leaving practice without permission.

■ The Lions re-signed long snapper Don Muhlbach and defensive end Kerry Hyder. Muhlbach is third on the team list of career games played (212) and in line to pass longtime center Dominic Raiola (219) next season.

■ Star cornerback Casey Hayward agreed to a threeyear, $36 million contract extension with the Chargers.
