Valdez wins brutal bout with Quigg

-

Oscar Valdez’s broken jaw left a pool of blood between rounds in his corner. Scott Quigg’s badly damaged nose wasn’t even the most grotesque feature of his battered face.

By the time they embraced after the 12th-round bell, fans at StubHub Center’s outdoor ring in Carson, Calif., rose to cheer an exceptional display of perseverance, and Valdez (24-0, 19 KOs) headed for the hospital with the WBO featherweight championship still in his possession. Valdez beat England’s Quigg (34-2-2) in a steady downpour for a unanimous decision Saturday.
