for all NBA player donations.
Wade continued his support this weekend when he helped turn an empty warehouse in the Wynwood district of Miami into a tribute to honor the victims of the shooting. The warehouse was supposed to be set up for just a weekend but the response was so great it will remain open this week.
Wade stopped by the warehouse Saturday after the Heat’s victory over Washington. “It touched me being there and being able to talk to the families,” he said.
No move expected: The Heat were granted a $5.5 million exception by the NBA in January when the league determined Dion Waiters’ ankle surgery was season-ending. But that deadline was expected to expire without the Heat adding a player.
General manager Andy Elisburg said the team had discussions about using the exception but after acquiring Wade and Luke Babbitt at the trade deadline, the organization decided to move forward with its current roster.
The exception was granted because an independent medical panel determined Waiters will be sidelined at least through June 15. He underwent season-ending surgery on his left ankle Jan. 22.
