PALM BEACH GARDENS — Gun incidents continue to occur at William T. Dwyer High School, with the latest Thursday morning when a student was found with a handgun in his vehicle, according to the school’s principal.

The student, who was not identified, was arrested.

A school police officer noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the student’s vehicle. He conducted a search and the gun was found.

The incident took place at about 11:50 a.m., school Principal Joe DePasquale told parents in a recorded phone call.

“At no time were any staff or students in jeopardy due to the situation this morning,” DePasquale said, according to a transcript of the call.

DePasquale asked parents to remind their children about notifying school staff members if they see anything suspicious.

Dwyer, on Military Trail just south of Donald Ross Road in Palm Beach Gardens, has dealt with several gun incidents since the beginning of the school year. A 17-year-old student was arrested March 8 after he made alleged threats of a school shooting. The teen posted photos of himself with a gun in the school parking lot.

A student found a loaded gun in the cabinet of a classroom on Jan. 26. No one was immediately arrested.

Another Dwyer student was arrested by Riviera Beach police Oct. 10 after he was found carrying a handgun on a school bus. The 16-year-old faced a charge of possession of a weapon.
