NO BAIL FOR ALLEGED CARJACKER, KIDNAPPER
Mom told police Hudson had been acting erratically.
WEST PALM BEACH — A man accused of stealing a car with a baby in its back seat early Tuesday will remain in the Palm Beach County Jail until his next court hearing.
Judge Ted Booras on Thursday denied bond on the kidnapping charge Marquise Sharkear Hudson is facing, even though Hudson declined to appear at his hearing.
Hudson is accused of stealing a 2013 Kia Forte from outside the Raceway gas station at Southern Boulevard and Wallis Road in suburban West Palm Beach. Its owner had left the engine running with a 4-month-old in the back seat.
Hudson then dropped the baby at the Sunoco gas station on State Road 7 just south of Okeechobee Boulevard several minutes later. PBSO says he banged on the door of the station’s convenience store to get the attendant’s attention.
“Take the baby!” he reportedly yelled before driving away. Video-surveillance cameras recorded his appearance at the Sunoco station.
Booras also set bond at a total of $150,000 for two other charges — grand theft of a motor vehicle and burglary — on which the Palm Beach County Sheriff ’s Office arrested Hudson on Wednesday.
Deputies found Hudson at Haverhill Park, off Belvedere Road and Military Trail, after receiving a call from his mother, who told authorities Hudson had been “acting erratically” and who identified him in surveillance photos.
Jail records indicate Hudson has been arrested in the county on similar charges at least twice in the last year. He served jail time last year after pleading guilty to driving without a valid license and car theft.
In February, he was arrested and accused of grand theft of a motor vehicle in suburban Lake Worth. Prosecutors decided not to pursue the charge.
