THINGS TO DO

-

1. Battle of the Bands. SunFest’s third annual competition is Wednesday on the CityPlace Plaza. Attendees will enjoy specialty cocktails while they get a first taste of South Florida’s favorite music festival and witness five up-and-coming bands compete for the coveted final slot in the SunFest line-up. Participating bands include AfterMidNite, Big Sounds Better, Rogue Theory Band, Static Momentum and The Rough Drafts. The event is free and open to the public.

It’s from 6-10 p.m. at 700 S. Rosemary Ave.

2. Festival of Fitness and Wellness. CityPlace and Hilton West Palm Beach have partnered to create District Fit, a two-day festival of fitness and wellness. The event is Friday, March 30, and Saturday, March 31. It will include free indoor and outdoor fitness classes, mindful wellness practices, healthy food and beverage vendors, live entertainment and specialty pop-up shops.

3. Outdoor playhouses. Storytelling will set the stage for the City of West Palm Beach’s “Summer in Paradise” campaign. Through a partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Palm Beach County, West Palm will continue its community-engaging initiative, which supports local artists and nonprofits through the building, painting and auctioning of 12 unique, outdoor playhouses, collectively referred to as the “Global Fairy Tale Village.” This year’s theme is designed to raise awareness of affordable housing issues. Each playhouse will be assigned a local nonprofit, which will be responsible for building the child-size home, and then partnered with a local artist, who will interpret a preassigned fairy tale.

The playhouses will be complete and on display at the waterfront at 101 N. Clematis St. from Thursday, June 7, through Thursday, July 26, when they will be auctioned off to support the nonprofits.
