DELRAY BEACH — After learning three children watched their father brutally kill their mother and aunt before committing suicide, Delray Beach police officers and community leaders collected money for the orphaned children.

Officer Leo McCabe, who was the first to arrive at the scene of the double murder-suicide March 25, said the violent killings and gruesome crime scene prompted officers to help the four child witnesses.

“We wanted to do what we could to help them out,” McCabe said in a Delray Beach Police Facebook post. “They are young. They lost both parents. They had to step over their mother.”

McCabe and Det. Oscar Leon, both fathers to young children, collected money from Delray Beach officers to donate to the children, ages 16, 9 and 7. The children’s 10-year-old cousin also witnessed the slayings.

Members of the community, led by business owner Chuck Halberg, also donated money. A GoFundMe page created by a family mem- ber of the children has collected more than $1,000 as of Saturday.

Before the sun rose March 25, Julien Rosemberg, 44, was arguing with his wife and sister-in-law. The children were abruptly awoken by the sounds.

The 16-year-old tried to stop the fight, “but he couldn’t do anything to stop his enraged father,” police say.

Rosenberg shot his wife, Pierrena Rosemberg, 43, and her sister, Lourdine Cazeau, 41, before shooting himself.
