Sabathia, Drury placed on 10-day DL by Yankees

Injury (hip flexor) also sidelines Orioles OF Rasmus.

The New York Yankees placed left-hander CC Sabathia and third baseman Brandon Drury on the 10-day disabled list. The moves Saturday came a day after New York lost to Baltimore 7-3, with Pedro Alvarez hitting a grand slam in the 14th inning in a game lasting 5 hours, 20 minutes.

Sabathia left Friday’s game with a sore right hip after throwing just 58 pitches over four innings. The move to the disabled list for the 37-yearold pitcher came despite a clean MRI. Drury has been dealing with severe migraines for some time and is set for more tests Monday.

Jonathan Holder, who served up Alvarez’s slam, was optioned to Triple-A. To fill the vacancies, the Yankees recalled righthanders Luis Cessa and Domingo German from Triple-A and signed utility man Jace Peterson to a major league contract.

Orioles: Placed outfielder Colby Rasmus on the 10-day disabled list with a strained left hip flexor. He is batting .095 with 13 strikeouts in 21 at-bats after signing a oneyear contract in February. Baltimore recalled rookie right-hander Jimmy Yacabonis from Triple-A Norfolk.

Red Sox: Manager Alex Cora said LHP Drew Pomeranz (strained left forearm flexor) was going to make a rehab start for Triple-A Pawtucket today and is planned to go five or six innings.

Nationals: Put catcher Miguel Montero on the paternity list and designated left-handed reliever Enny Romero for assignment. In another move, the Nationals recalled utility player Matt Reynolds from Syracuse, giving them an additional player on the bench.

Diamondbacks: Manager Torey Lovullo has 99 wins in his first 170 games and is trying to become the fastest active manager to 100 wins, which would eclipse Detroit’s Ron Gardenhire, who needed 173 games in 2002-2003.

Twins: The Twins played the Mariners Saturday in a Twins-record low game of 27 degrees. The first-pitch temperature at Target Field beat the Minnesota mark of 31 degrees for a game in 2014. Coors Field in Denver holds the major league low with a 23-degree day in April 2013 when Atlanta visited the Rockies.

Mariners: Catcher Mike Zunino (right oblique strain) could join the team when the Mariners return to Seattle this week after their current road trip, manager Scott Servais said. He was eligible to return from the disabled list Saturday.
