WELLINGTON GETS TASTE OF ‘KALUZ’

American upscale eatery expands from Lauderdale location.

A much-anticipated restaurant has opened its doors in Wellington.

This is the second location for Fort Lauderdale-based Kaluz, which serves cuisine described as American upscale. The restaurant opened Friday and will be open for walk-ins for the first few days. Reservations can be made through www.opentable.com beginning June 1.

Kaluz was built on the site of the former Buca di Beppo Italian family-style eatery at 2025 Wellington Green Drive in front of the Hampton Inn on Forest Hill Boulevard. The restaurant closed in 2015, and the building was set on fire July 4, 2016, in what first was reported as a fireworks-related incident but investigators later said was arson.

Construction on Kaluz began last year. The design mimics Kaluz’ waterfront Fort Lauderdale restaurant, with a prominent white facade set against dark brown and black accents. A wall about four feet high features a waterfall along the eastand south-facing sides of the building.

In a menu posted to the Kaluz Wellington Facebook page, the entree options range from the $23 Bell and Evans roasted chicken served with Parmesan mashed potatoes, to a $38 New York strip with a loaded baked potato, to a market-priced ahi tuna steak with chilled quinoa medley. A variety of burgers and sandwiches — including a veggie burger and prime rib burger — run from $15 to $18. Appetizers, flatbreads and salads are priced from $12 to $21.

Kaluz also offers happy hour from 3-6 p.m., Monday-Friday. Specials during that time include small plates — think half-flatbreads, chicken drum lollipops and ceviche — priced from $5 to $8, $9 well martinis and $3 domestic bottled beers.

The restaurant’s hours are 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday, and 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday-Saturday, according to the Kaluz Wellington Facebook page. For more information, call (561) 653-1196 or go to www.kaluzrestaurant.com.
