Canes extend Larranaga’s contract two years

CORAL GABLES — Jim Larranaga’s bosses are in no rush to find a replacement, and he’s in no hurry to leave.

Larranaga, 68, the most successful coach in Hurricanes basketball history, signed a two-year extension that will keep him in Coral Gables through the 2023-24 season.

UM announced the deal Tuesday. It did not disclose the dollar amount.

Athletic Director Blake James recently told the Post that despite back-to-back first-round NCAA Tourna- ment exits, he was pleased with his head of hoops.

“I couldn’t be happier with what he has done and the bar he has set for this program,” James said. “Whenever the time comes for Jim to be done, we’ll get the best person available. Beyond that, right now, I want Jim to coach for many more years. I’m working on making sure he has all the support and resources that he needs.”

Larranaga, who h as reached the Sweet 16 twice in the last six seasons (most recently in 2016), enters an uncertain offseason after the early NBA departures of guards Bruce Brown and Lonnie Walker. Forward Dewan Huell also declared for the draft but has not hired an agent and may return to school.

Noteworthy: The ACC announced Miami’s conference opponents for the upcoming season. The dates are typically announced in September.

UM’s home opponents are Clemson, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, North Carolina State and Pittsburgh.

The Hurricanes play Boston College, Duke, Louisville, Syracuse and Virginia on the road.

The home-and-home foes: Florida State, North Carolina, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
