Jays 3B Donaldson placed on 10-day DL

-

The Toronto Blue Jays have placed third baseman Josh Donaldson on the 10-day disabled with right shoulder inflammation.

Donaldson, the AL’s MVP in 2015, is batting .239 with three home runs and nine RBIs in 12 games. He’s been dealing with the injury since the beginning of the season and will work out in Florida.

Mets: Catcher Kevin Plawecki will be sidelined for three to four weeks with a broken left hand and went on the disabled list Friday as New York announced catcher Travis d’Arnaud will have season-ending Tommy John surgery.

Rockies: Third baseman Nolan Arenado was suspended five games for charging the mound after Luis Perdomo threw a pitch behind his back, inciting a benches-clearing brawl during Wednesday’s game against the Padres. Perdomo was also suspended five games for throwing at the All-Star third baseman. Rockies outfielder Gerardo Parra was suspended four games for fighting.

Athletics: Catcher Bruce Maxwell pleaded guilty Fri- day to disorderly conduct in an incident in which he was accused of pointing a handgun at the head of a woman who delivered food to his home in Scottsdale, Arizona. Maxwell pleaded to an undesignated felony, meaning the offense will go down to a misdemeanor upon successful completion of his probation.

ODDS AND ENDS

Soccer: FIFA wants to charge hosting fees for staging 24-team Club World Cup tournaments worth at least $3 billion each and planned to kick off in 2021. In a briefing document seen by The Associated Press, FIFA says host markets “must have a propensity to pay a hosting fee” — a business model similar to Formula One auto racing. FIFA has a $25 billion offer from a consortium including Chinese, Saudi Arabian and American interests to help organize and market the revamped Club World Cup and a new global league for national teams for 12 years through 2033.

NASCAR: Kyle Busch edged brother Kurt Busch by 0.002 seconds to take the pole for the Cup Series race Sunday at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway. It marks the third time the Busch brothers have started on the front row together, and the first since 2013. In all three cases, Kyle started first and Kurt second. Brad Keselowski, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Ryan Blaney rounded out the top five. Kevin Harvick will have to start at the back of the field after crashing in practice.
