» Trump expected to conduct a roundtable in Palm Beach,
PALM BEACH — President Donald Trump was expected to conduct a roundtable with GOP supporters Friday evening at Mar-a-Lago, hours after he spent the day with old habits — apparently playing a round of golf and tweeting from his winter White House.
Trump woke Friday tweeting about OPEC and oil prices, Nancy Pelosi and the tax cuts, his excitement over agreeing to be the commencement speaker at the Naval Academy in Annapolis on May 25 and James Comey.
All the tweets came before 7 a.m. and followed a Thursday late-night tweet about the Comey memos.
Trump’s Friday morning tweet about Comey was his 58th about Comey since Dec. 17 and it stated in part: “So General Michael Flynn’s life can be totally destroyed while Shadey James Comey can Leak and Lie and make lots of money from a third rate book (that should never have been written).”
Later in the morning, the presidential took his motorcade to his Trump International Golf Club in suburban West Palm Beach. The president stayed at the club for about five hours but there was no confirmation of whether he played golf.
When Trump returned to Mar-a-Lago, he tweeted about the “fake” news media and having high poll numbers.
“Can you believe that despite 93% bad stories from the Fake News Media (should be getting good stories), today we had just about our highest Poll Numbers, including those on Election Day? The American public is wise to the phony an[sic] dishonest press. Make America Great Again!”
It’s unclear what poll the president was referring to but the Rasmussen Reports came out Friday and showed that, when asked about the president’s job approval (on the economy, foreign policy, congressional and direction of the country), 49 percent of people approved and 50 percent disapproved.
On Thursday, Trump took a side trip to Key West to a military facility that combats drug trafficking and criminal networks. He and first lady Melania hosted the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his wife Akie on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Trump is expected to fly back to Washington on Sunday.
