Arriving at the Lantana Super 8 motel before dawn, authorities Sunday arrested Daron Breon Harrell, 33, on a warrant connected to the shooting death of Kevin Lamar Stevens.

The U.S. Marshals Service, along with West Palm Beach and Lantana police and the Palm Beach County Sheriff ’s Office, brought Harrell into custody peacefully, West Palm police spokesman Sgt. Dennis Hardiman said Sunday.

West Palm police said Stevens’ car crashed into a parked car in the 700 block of Fifth Street in West Palm Beach Saturday morning, prompting a flurry of 911 calls by people reporting an auto accident.

When West Palm Beach police arrived, however, they found Stevens, 36, had been shot.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Harrell, who lists an address in Riviera Beach.

At about 5:30 a.m., U.S. marshals located Harrell at the Super

8 motel on Hypoluxo Road, just east of North Seacrest Boulevard, Hardiman said. Along with the marshals, sheriff ’s deputies and police from West Palm converged on Harrell’s room.

He was arrested without incident and booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on a charge of first-degree murder with a firearm. He is being held without bail. West Palm Beach police sealed off the hotel room and part of the hotel parking lot until a search warrant could be obtained.

Stevens’ death on Saturday marked the third fatal shooting in West Palm Beach in three days.

On Thursday, police said Timothy Keathley, 66, was shot and killed near the 7100 block of Deer Point Lane. On Friday, Antonio Sebastian Juan, 41, was shot dead outside a home on the 600 block of 37th Street.

Stevens’ death is also the 33rd in Palm Beach County for 2018, according to a Palm Beach Post database.

The shooting is the eighth homicide in West Palm Beach this year, and the third to be discovered since 2009 on Fifth Street, according to the database.

Lantana’s Super 8 motel has had its share of crimes, too. In February, a 20-yearold man wielding a chainsaw leaped from bushes in front of the motel and attached an older woman. The woma man survived her injuries.

But the motel’s connection with crime stretches back years. A 2015 Post article reported that Lantana police said there were more than 5,100 calls for police service in the decade between 2005 and 2015, more than one call per day.
