Botox, Juvaderm Volbella and dentistry

- Mitchell Josephs, DDS

Question: Do you do any fillers or Botox? Many of my female friends have been seeing their dentists after they had their veneers done for this kind of treatment.

Answer :At54,I am sure I am no Mark Zuckerberg when it comes to technology, but I am certainly no Luddite either. More and more folks are following me on Instagram (@drjosephs) to view photos of our latest cosmetic and implant dentistry cases, as well as some dry dental humor, or pictures of my dog Casey in his leather jacket and biker goggles.

Yesterday, one of my patients had a paper calendar. I gazed upon it as if it was an Egyptian artifact and inquired if he had an abacas instead of a calculator. His cell phone was the size of a brick and looked like something

I saw in a trench battle scene in Platoon.

A legendary cosmetic dentist once said: “The teeth are the stars of the stage, but the lips are the curtains.” (He then was whisked away in handcuffs for shouting this out loud repeatedly on the subway, but that’s another story.)

Many dentists, including myself, have been trained by the American Academy of Facial Esthetics for Botox and fillers, led by Dr. Louis Maltzmacher, whom I know personally from sharing many a podium at various dental conferences. Here is what we do in our office for patients via injectables:

Botox: Horizontal wrinkles of the forehead, vertical lines, the socalled “elevens and ones” between the eye brows, crow’s feet, TMJ pain, migraines and gummy smiles. (My own forehead looked like a blank sheet of music paper before Botox.)

Juvaderm Volbella

XC: Plumping lips, accentuating the cupid’s bow for the upper lip, fullness for the lower lip, massive improvement of smoker’s lines, plumping up gums between teeth to fill in black triangular spaces.

These simple procedures can really make you the star of the stage!
