SUNCOAST, DREYFOOS SLIP BUT STILL IN TOP 100

- By Andrew Marra Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

Suncoast High School and Dreyfoos School of the Arts fell slightly this year but remained among the nation’s top 100 public high schools in a new ranking by U.S. News and World Report.

In its annual ranking published this week, the magazine ranked Suncoast in Riviera Beach 61st in the nation, down from 53rd last year. Dreyfoos, in downtown West Palm Beach, rated 80th, down from 78th last year

The schools were ranked sixth and 11th in Florida, respectively.

Suncoast and Dreyfoos — two selective, application-only public schools — are regular presences on the annual list. Although the schools have traded spots as the county’s top-rated high school over the years, Suncoast has edged out Dreyfoos each year since 2015.

Overall, 11 Palm Beach County high schools made the list of the top 2,000 nationally, down from 12 last year. The list included 10 district-operated schools and one charter school, G-Star School of the Arts in Palm Springs.

In addition to Suncoast and Dreyfoos, the 11 schools are: Boca Raton High, Jupiter High, G-Star, Spanish River High, Atlantic High, West Boca High, Olympic Heights High, Park Vista High and Dwyer High.

Like last year, the top spot in Florida went this year to Pine View School, a school for gifted students in Sarasota County.

The top public high school in the nation was also a repeat from last year: BASIS Scottsdale, a charter school in Arizona.
