Palm Beach Atlantic falls in regional final

Softball team loses to Ala.-Huntsville, finishes 28-6.

Palm Beach Atlantic’s softball team fell in the NCAA Division II South Regional championsh­ip game Saturday night, 5-1, to Alabama-Huntsville.

The Sailfish took an early lead at Simpson Field on Edmilly Molina’s RBI single and pitcher Ashton Adkins was sailing along until the fourth inning, when the Chargers took a 2-1 lead. They added a run in the fifth and two more in the seventh to advance to the Super Regionals.

Palm Beach Atlantic finished the season with a 28-6 record.

Bethune-Cookman golfers still lead: Bethune-Cookman’s women and men continued to lead their respective team divisions at the PGA Minority Collegiate Championsh­ip at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie.

With rain in the forecast for today’s final round, the PGA of America Rules Committee decided late Friday to play 27 holes Saturday, leaving a final-day 9 holes.

Junior Yudika Rodriguez’s second-round 73 paved the way for the B-CU women, whose team total of 751 gave them a 31-stroke lead over Incarnate Word (782) after 45 holes on the Ryder Course.

In Men’s Division I, sophomores Christian Hovstadius (second-round 69) and Marcus Sundlof (second-round 70) lifted B-CU’s men (708) to a 45-hole lead over Savannah State (761) and Incarnate Word (762). Meanwhile, the University of Houston-Victoria, which began its golf program in 2010, is doing its best to make up for lost time, as their men’s team (774) leads the NAIA Division by four shots over second-place Governors State
