Brightline trains nearly sold out

Tickets for Brightline’s first train trips to Miami this weekend are nearly sold out, and the company is bracing for large crowds at all of its South Florida stations.

As of Thursday morning, tickets were still available on the 7 a.m. weekend trains departing West Palm Beach for the Miami station. There were also seats on the 9 p.m. Saturday train and on the 7 p.m. Sunday train, both traveling from West Palm to Miami.

Brightline has slashed ticket prices this weekend to mark the grand opening of its MiamiCentral station, which is at 600 NW First Ave. in the heart of downtown Miami. It is within walking distance of AmericanAirlines Arena and a short shuttle ride from PortMiami and the Wynwood Arts District.

On Saturday and Sunday, the company is charging $3 for a oneway ticket in its regular coach cars. One-way tickets for a Select seat, Brightline’s version of first class, will cost $5. Tickets can be purchased online at gobrightline.com.

The company also plans to have a series of events at the Miami station to mark its grand opening, including an appearance by

Miami Heat player Udonis Haslem and D J Irie.

Beginning Monday, introductory one-way fares from West Palm Beach to Miami will be $15 for a regular ticket and $25 for a Select seat. The Select car features more spacious seats, as well as free snacks and beverages. One- way tickets between West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale and Fort Lauder- dale and Miami will be $10 for regular seats and $15 for Select.

The company plans to run eight round-trip trains a day between its three South Flor- ida stations. Trips between West Palm Beach and Miami will take aboutan hour and 20 minutes.

Each Brightline train can seat 240 people.

This week, Brightline announced it had signed a deal with the ride-hailing service Lyft to help get travelers to their final destinations.

The exclusive partnership will allow Lyft to have designated pickup and dropoff zones at each of Brightline’s three South Florida stations. Travelers can wait in a “lounge-style environment” until their Lyft driver arrives. Signs in the stations will direct train passengers to Lyft’s zones.

Brightline on Wednesday urged passengers traveling this weekend to use Lyft to travel to and from its stations. Lyft is giving passengers a $5 credit toward their ride with the code BRIGHTLINE305.
