Evert charity tourney to return in Nov.

- Staff reports

BOCA RATON — Chris Evert will continue her campaign to combat drug abuse and child neglect in South Florida when she hosts the 29th annual Chris Evert/Raymond James Pro-Celebrity Tennis Classic fundraiser Nov. 9-11.

Chris Evert Charities also announced that Raymond James will continue as title sponsor of the charity’s annual fundraising event.

“The Chris Evert Charities/Raymond James partnership has a long history of making an impact in the South Florida community,” Evert said in a statement released to announce the event. “Our continued association assures a bright future for at-risk children and their families as we continue to raise funds to combat drug abuse and child neglect.”

Evert, the 18-time Grand Slam champion and longtime Boca Raton resident, started Chris Evert Charities soon after her retirement from professional tennis in 1989. The charity has raised more than $24 million, including $800,000 in 2017.

Evert will be joined at the event by a lineup of former tennis pros and sports and entertainment celebrities, many who return annually to help support the cause. The Chris Evert/Raymond James Pro-Celebrity Tennis Classic fundraising weekend includes a pro-am, cocktail party, charity gala and two days of pro-celebrity tennis.
