If your teen or preteen loves the outdoors, fishing and being on the water, then the Tequesta Police Department has the perfect summer camp for your child.

The police department is hosting its ninth annual summer camp called the Nautical Club for children 12 to 17. The camp focuses on educating children about boating safety and marine activities, according to Officer Raymond Korkowski, who has been leading the camp for the past six years.

“This camp is definitely awesome for our boating community,” said Korkowski. “It’s for anybody. We teach the kids everything to do with the waterways.”

The Nautical Club’s activities include a pool day, boating safety education, snorkeling, fishing education on gear and regulations, bottom fishing trip, paddle boarding, local tours, a picnic and more. The camp is scheduled for Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 2 through Aug. 11, but the days may vary depending on the activity.

The Nautical Club is usually a pretty small group, according to Korkowski, but it isn’t limiting the number of students allowed to join. When the camp first started, there were only about 13 students involved, but now there are usually about 20.

Registration is Saturday at the Tequesta Police Department, 375 Tequesta Drive, from 5 to 7 p.m.
