John Domenico has been tapped as president of the Children’s Healthcare Charity, the charitable arm of the Honda Classic.

Domenico has served on the board for eight years and succeeds Joe Steranka, who finished his four-year term. Domenico is a managing director and private client adviser for U.S. Trust, a private bank that serves highnet-worth people.

Domenico has lived in Palm Beach County for 30 years and has been the vice president of the Children’s Healthcare Charity board for six years, according to a news release. He’s also on the boards of the American Heart Association and Boy Scouts of America-Gulfstream Council.

The Honda Classic, a PGA Tour event, gave away a record $3.63 million to 133 local children’s charities in 2017. It has given away more than $35 million to charities since it started 36 years ago.

Of that, $20 million was disbursed since the Children’s Healthcare Charity took over 11 years ago and moved the golf tournament to PGA National Resort & Spa, according to the release.

Barbara Nicklaus and her son, Gary, will remain co-chairs of the board.

“John, like Joe, will never let any grass grow under his feet, and he also understands how golf can be a wonderful vehicle for giving back,” Barbara Nicklaus said in the release. “John is a people person, admired by all who have the pleasure of knowing him. We can’t thank Joe enough as he is stepping down or John enough as he is stepping up.”

The 2019 Honda Classic will be Feb. 25 to March 3.
