The South Florida Science Center will be hosting workshops with Allaxis 3D printers. These workshops are open to the public, but preregistration is required. Upcoming dates:
June 16, July 28 and Aug. 4. The classes, “3D Design & Printing Showcase for Ages 8-15,” cost $45 and take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Stiles-Nicholson STEM Education Center across the parking lot from the main Science Center building, 4800 Dreher Trail N.
The workshops are designed to inspire young thinkers to turn their wildest creations into reality with 3-D technology. Students will try various 3-D technologies, including digital modeling, scanning, printing and virtual reality design. This is a drop-off class for the child only. On Friday, June 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Capital One Café will celebrate National Doughnut Day with complimentary doughnuts for every customer. Limit one doughnut per customer, while supplies last. For more information, visit cityplace.com/events/ national-donut-event.
A Spend Smarter Workshop by Capital One Café takes place June 4 from 4 to 5 p.m. The course is to help consumers gain a better understanding of spending. It’s free and open to the public, and participants will learn about their spending tendencies, ways to hack spending, and ultimately ensure that spending is enjoyable. Mounts Botanical Garden invites people of all ages to experience the popular ecology-themed exhibition, Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea, which closes Friday, June 1. The exhibit features 10 giant sea life sculptures made of marine debris collected from beaches to illustrate the tragedy of plastic pollution in oceans and waterways and to encourage conservation. The sculptures are located throughout the garden’s 14 acres.
It’s open daily 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It’s free for members and children 4 and younger; $15 for nonmembers; $5 for children (5-12); group tours are $18 per person (5 and older).
