WEST PALM BEACH — A 22-year-old homeless man accused in the stabbing of a woman last month under a city bridge pleaded no contest Thursday to an unrelated trespassing charge in St. Lucie County.

D’Antoine Jackson entered the plea during an arraignment in which he appeared on video before St. Lucie County Judge Phillip J. Yacucci.

Yacucci sentenced Jackson to eight months in the St. Lucie County Jail with credit for time served. Jackson also was assessed $448 in court costs.

Jackson has been in the custody of St. Lucie County authorities since his May 3 arrest by Fort Pierce police on a charge of trespassing at an unoccupied home. West Palm Beach police said that Jackson was the person who stabbed a 60-year-old woman in the chest the morning of April 8 during an attempted robbery under the Royal Park Bridge.

Police linked Jackson to the crime through DNA evidence collected from the woman’s backpack. He faces charges of attempted murder and attempted robbery.

He will remain in St. Lucie County for the duration of his sentence unless there is a court order to extradite him, St. Lucie County Assistant State Attorney Amber Moseley said Friday.

A spokesman for the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office could not be reached for comment.

Jackson’s release date would otherwise be contingent on credit for time served and gained time as determined by St. Lucie County Jail officials.

Jackson told Fort Pierce police he is homeless and had gone into an unlocked home to take a shower. A woman who stopped to check on the home called police when she heard someone inside.
