Former Boca student arrested after threat
BOCA RATON — A former Span- ish River High School student was arrested Tuesday after posting a Snapchat video that afternoon captioned, “On my way, school shooter,” author- ities said.
David Puy, 19, faces a charge of intimidation. A Spanish River High student alerted a teacher to Puy’s Snapchat video that seemed to threaten a school, Palm Beach County sheriff ’s authorities said.
He did not mention a specific school in the post and told investigators he “wasn’t think- ing” when he made the post.
“I want to stress that there was no threat made to Spanish River, or any other schools,” said principal William Latson in a recorded call to parents sent Wednesday morning.
Puy last attended Spanish River High in 2017, school authorities said. He did not graduate.
Investigators met with Puy at his parents’ home outside the Delray Beach city limits. The teen told authorities he wasn’t planning any violent acts. He does not appear to have any prior criminal charges as an adult.
Judge Ted Booras ordered Puy be held on a $50,000 bond and placed on in-house arrest with an ankle monitor if released.
He cannot have contact with any Palm Beach County schools.
Puy faces charges under the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act (SB 7026), according to the school district. The act, passed in March, raises penalties for those who threaten schools.
