Google within rights to refuse U.S. work
Marc Thiessen’s rant, “Shame on Google for treating the U.S. military as evil” (Saturday), against Google’s decision not to participate in the weaponization of artificial intelligence, was shameful.
Thiessen painted the Google employees as ungrateful and unpatriotic. His logic fails on multiple levels. This is America. Companies can decide not to bid on work. There are other companies that the Pentagon can approach to help improve drone systems.
What kinds of security concerns would there be if 2,000 Google employees did not want to work on the project?
Would Google have an employee retention program if it embarked on a project so massively unsupported by its employees?
Also, if a baker can decide not to bake a cake for a gay couple, then people can certainly decide not to participate in the weaponization of their dream work product.
