Winning Over Temptation?

- Pastor Chuck Brannon

We must have victory over personal temptations to thrive. Overcomers wear the crown of life. It’s no sin to be tempted. But give in and suffer. But take heart, God makes us repeated winners. Everybody is tempted. No temptation has seized you except what is common to man...God is faithful, he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear...he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. (I Corinthians 10:13) Satan is the tempter. Why? He hates God and those He loves. One day Satan tempted Jesus in three places, three ways: In the desert, he tempted a tired, hungry Jesus physically. On the temple’s high point, he tempted him psychologically. Ona mountaintop, he tempted him spiritually. Satan’s mission? Steal, kill and destroy! But Jesus won! He wielded a mighty weapon, God’s Word! You must read Matthew 4:1-11, why not read it now? Learn to defeat your physical, psychological and spiritual temptations. Personal temptations originate how? Each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Temptation drags you farther than you want to go, entices you longer than you want to stay and costs you more than you want to pay. When we fail, we can turn to Christ, the forgiving friend of sinners. Never be ashamed to repent, it’s liberating. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. No one is sinless, but Christ enables us to sin less and less, and love it. By his cross, we can wear the crown of life. God wants you to win, do you?
