The Spirited Awards have been crowning the best in the service industry since 2007, and for 2018, Delray Beach’s own Death or Glory has been nominated as one of the Top 10 Best New American Cocktail Bars. The local watering hole has a rum-focused menu and pays homage to the rumrunners of 1920s Florida.

“The Spirited Awards are the equivalent of the Oscars for the bar world,” said Neal Bodenheimer, board member of Tales of the Cocktail Foundation.

With such beverages as “Chai Me Up Daddy,” “Death Before Decaf ” and “Sun Up Sun Down,” Death or Glory knows how to spin a complex cocktail into a memorable drinking experience. The bar also knows how to get in the holiday spirit. In December, the bar hosted a special holiday-themed pop-up in conjunction with more than 50 other bars across the country.

Death or Glory, which opened in April 2017 in the historic Falcon House, was the only Florida bar nominated for Best New American Cocktail Bars.

The bar, at 116 NE Sixth Ave., also specializes in making everyone who walks through the door feel like family. Like “Cheers,” your name is often known at the door and there’s always a concert series playing the soundtrack of your life. In fact, check out its Facebook page to add trivia or Jazz and Jam Sessions to your social calendar.

Not only do the food and drinks contribute to Death or Glory’s greatness but so does the spirit of the bar. The bar’s motto is a battle cry: “Never give up, never grow old, and always support the people you serve. This is our life, not just our livelihood.”

Visit Death or Glory for happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m. for $6 drafts, wine and cocktails.

Winners will be announced at the Spirited Awards on July 21.
