A vehicle crashed into two trucks while driving west on Hypoluxo Road on Saturday afternoon, sending one child to the trauma center and seven others to the hospital, according to Boynton Beach Police.

The vehicle’s driver, 34-year-old Rose Wilmer, was driving with six passengers, including five under 18, police said. One child involved in the three-car crash was taken to the trauma center at Delray Medical Center, police said, and the others were taken to JFK Medical Center.

The crash, which occurred across from Freedom Shores Elementary, began when Wilmer’s Nissan Pathfinder struck a pickup truck traveling eastbound on Hypoluxo Road, police said. The Nissan hit the truck, which was driven by 32-year-old Jamie Castro, as the truck turned north onto Venetian Drive, causing it to hit a utility pole, according to police. The Nissan continued into the intersection, police said, when it hit a Dodge Ram before coming to a stop.

Both people in the Dodge Ram were uninjured, police said.

The crash, which happened just after 1 p.m., shut down all westbound lanes of Hypoluxo Road west of Congress Avenue. Lanes were reopened later that afternoon.

A Boynton Beach police spokeswoman said the crash is under investigation and encouraged any witnesses to contact traffic homicide investigator Vincent Mastro at 561-732-8116.
