10 schools closed for renovations

- By Sonja Isger Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

As buildings undergo major renovations, parents seeking to register students have to head to alternative enrollment sites.

Registering your child for the next school year is typically as simple as filling out forms at the school he or she will attend. But this summer, 10 campuses across Palm Beach County are closed while undergoing major renovations. Parents seeking to register students will have to head to alternative enrollment sites.

The renovation work is being paid for by a sales tax hike — from 6 percent to 7 percent — that voters approved in November 2016. Half of that hike is directed to School District improvement and renovation projects including replacing restrooms and plumbing, air conditioning systems and roofing. It also will cover the cost of various security projects such as fencing, the creation of single points of entry and intercom systems.

Registration is required for students who are new to Palm Beach County or those transferring from one school to another within the district. Parents must bring several documents including — but not limited to — proof of residency and record of immunizations. A full list can be found on the district’s website, palmbeachschools. org, or on their phones via the new parent phone app.

Here are the schools that are closed and where parents must go instead to register students: ■ Bear Lakes Middle, West Palm Beach. Register at Palm Beach Lakes High, 3505 Shiloh Drive, West Palm Beach.
