Cosmetic options to improve the look of your arms

- Michael Frederick, MD

Question: I’m not happy with how my arms look. What are my options?

Answer: In our South Florida lifestyle we wear clothing that bares our arms, such as golf shirts with short sleeves, tennis attire with no sleeves or even bathing suits. That being said, having toned and contoured arms can be very important. Many want to know what cosmetic options there are to help their arms look better.

For some, an exercise routine can certainly help. For others who have fat on the underside of their arms, or too much extra skin, cosmetic procedures may help give them back confidence they desire for sleeveless styles.

For those with a little fat on their arms, CoolSculpting®, a noninvasive, no-downtime treatment may do the trick. For others simple liposuction can be a better option. Patients will wear a compression garment for a couple of weeks. However, they have very little discomfort and no movement restrictions. For those wanting a more dramatic result in which the removal of skin is required, then an arm lift, called brachioplasty, is more appropriate. During this procedure, a scar is positioned on the inside of the upper arm so it cannot be seen while your arms are by your side.

Most patients find brachioplasty recovery to be relatively easy with some time off from work or major lifting activities, but their outcome can be dramatic and lifechanging. All of our surgical procedures are performed in our AAAASF-certified operating facility, without drains, and under twilight sedation.
