A Belle Glade drive-by shooting narrowly missed a car carrying five people, including three children under age 7, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff ’s Office.

Tyrell James, 26, was arrested Tuesday on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, felon in possession of a weapon and firing a weapon from a vehicle, records show.

About 10:30 a.m. on June 26, the group — a man, a woman and the three children — came to a four-way stop at the intersection of Southwest Avenue F and Southwest 3rd Street, an area where gang activity has been documented, a PBSO report said.

The group saw a burgundy car at the intersection’s stop sign. “There is that boy,” the man told the woman. She made eye contact with the burgundy car’s driver, who didn’t move, the PBSO report said.

The woman continued driving along Southwest Avenue F and passed in front of the car when she heard two shots fired, according to the report.

She sped forward and parked in front of the man’s mother’s home, who lived a block away, running with the kids, according to deputies.

The car was hit once under the front passenger’s door, according to the report.

In 2017, the man riding in the woman’s car, Devoris Allen, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery for shooting at James, which deputies said “gives James enough motive to shoot and kill Allen,” according to the report.

The ShotSpotter system recorded two rounds being fired in the location the group described.

On Wednesday, Judge Robert Panse denied James bond.
