Wellington jewelry store plans relocation

- Kristina Webb

In addition to a drive-thru Starbucks, the building next to Trader Joe’s will be the new home of Designer’s Touch Jewelry.

A Wellington mystery is solved: We now know who will occupy the space in a new building going up next to

Trader Joe’s.

In addition to a drivethrough Starbucks, the building will be the new home of Designer’s Touch Jewelry, which will move from just up the road in Wellington Reserve.

Designer’s Touch co-owner Harry Yorke reached out to share the news after seeing The Post’s coverage of Wellington’s approval for the new Starbucks and retail space on the northwest corner of Stribling Way and

State Road 7 in the Village Green Center.

Yorke and I have known each other for quite awhile. My late father, Ken Webb, was the property manager for Wellington Reserve from its 2006 opening to the early 2010s. Dad enlisted Yorke’s jeweler, Jerry D’Angelo, to craft simple but elegant rings for my sister and me using small diamonds left to my father by my grandmother.

Designer’s Touch has been in Wellington Reserve since it opened. The business marks its 12th anniversary there in October. Designer’s Touch is run by three generations of Yorkes and, before moving to Wellington, had a store in Broward County for more than 20 years.

So why make the move? The timing is right and the location is better, Yorke said.

“It’s going to be a great move to be where the restaurants and stores are,” he said.

Yorke said the new site offers him the chance to take the next step in the business as his son, Adam, gets more involved. His wife, Ellen, and her sister, Nancy Guritzky, are co-owners.

In moving, Designer’s Touch will go from about 2,500 square feet to about 2,300, “a teeny bit smaller,” Yorke said.

But he’s trading that 200 square feet for a bustling plaza, not to mention a storefront next door to one of the world’s most-recognizable brands. Over the years, Wellington Reserve has turned largely medical, where in its heyday it had restaurants, salons and a variety of other office uses.

Yorke said he hopes to open in Village Green Center in January or February.

It also will be interesting to see what moves into the prime office space freed up by Designer’s Touch. The ground-flood spot at 1035 SR 7 has a lot of potential. Wellington Reserve now includes Comerica Bank and the Premier Family Health & Wellness suite of services, which include a cafe, urgent care and family practice.
