Ex-state representative to hold book signing

- — STAFF REPORT

Addie L. Greene, Palm Beach County’s first black state representative, has written her first book “From the Coal Mines to the Boardroom.” The book signing is from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Riviera Beach Marina Event Center, 190 E. 13th St. The event is free and open to the public.

Greene also will appear on Ask Al’s radio show on Friday, which is hosted by State Rep. Al Jacquet, who currently holds Greene’s former seat in the State House of Representatives. In addition, she will be a guest on the “Mz. Millionaire Show” from 7 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 8 on WJFP 91.1 F.M.

Greene was the first black female councilwoman, vice mayor and mayor elected to the Town of Mangonia Park and the second black female elected county commissioner. The book covers not only her political career and topics such as the Scripps Research Institute, how a bill becomes a law, the Paragon Loan Fund and The Victim Witness Protection Protocol, but it also mentions those who paved the way for Greene as well as many other educators and politicians.

“This book isn’t just about me,” Greene said. “It’s about us; about the critical importance of ensuring people understand the political process; about what we need to know to be active, engaged and educated voters. That’s the only way democracy works.”

The book will be available on the day of the signing. For more information, call (561) 818-1670.
